The SDI. Understand what drives you, and the people you work with.

The Strength Deployment Inventory is a fifty-year-old assessment used by more than five million people. It explains why you do what you do, what happens to you in conflict, and which strengths you overdo. We run the workshops. Then the coach keeps it alive.

Four insights

What the SDI shows you

A snapshot of who you are that goes beyond behaviour to the motive underneath it. Memorable, visual, and built to be used the next day.

Motives

Everyone runs on a blend of three motives: helping people, getting results, and establishing order. The SDI paints a clear picture of your blend, the why behind what you do.

Conflict sequence

Conflict starts when our motives feel threatened, and our motives shift in a predictable sequence as it deepens. Knowing your sequence, and theirs, changes how you handle the moment.

Strengths

A portrait of the strengths you reach for first, and how you prioritise them to get results.

Overdone strengths

A strength used too hard stops working. Confident becomes arrogant, caring becomes smothering. The SDI shows you where that happens for you.

The three motives

Blue, red, green

Most of us are a blend. The dot on your SDI triangle shows the blend, and the arrow shows where it goes under pressure.

Blue · People

Motivated by the protection, growth and welfare of others. Wants everyone carried along, and notices when they are not.

Red · Performance

Motivated by results, action and the smartest, fastest route to the goal. Wants the plan, and wants it now.

Green · Process

Motivated by order, reason and doing things properly. Wants the thinking done before the doing.

And the Hub. Some people sit in the middle: a flexible blend of all three, able to move between them as the situation asks.
How we deliver it

Assessment, workshop, then real life

1
Take the SDI

An online assessment, about twenty minutes. Your results arrive as a picture: your dot, your arrow, your strengths portrait.

2
The workshop

Your facilitator debriefs the results with you, or with your whole team on one triangle, so you see each other's motives side by side. Half a day or a full day, in person or remote.

3
The coach, afterwards

The insight fades unless you use it. The SDI coach is there for the real conversation on Tuesday, when the workshop is a memory.

The SDI coach

Bring it a real relationship

Trained on the SDI and on how Different Dynamics teaches it. It never guesses someone's results, and anything only a person should answer goes to your facilitator.

My dot landed in Red-Green, and my project manager is Blue. Our planning meetings keep turning into a tug of war.
That's a classic pairing, and neither of you is wrong. Your Red-Green wants the smartest, fastest route to the result. Their Blue wants to know the people are carried along with it. When you open with the plan, they hear pressure. Try opening with what the plan does for the people on it, then the plan itself. Which meeting this week could you test that in?
